INDORE: Two elderly men, who were undergoing treatment at MY Hospital and were unable to walk, were brought at inaugural ceremony of Ayushman Bharat at PC Sethi Hospital on Sunday by health department officials merely for a photo session during the handover of golden card. Shockingly the duo was clueless about the golden card being given to them.
Health department officials distributed 17 golden cards under Ayushman Bharat scheme. The cards were distributed after people were enrolled under the scheme during the inaugural ceremony. The two MYH patients- 70-year-old Bapu Nath and 60-year-old Balu Singh- were among the gold card receivers.
Bapu, a resident of Akhirkheda village, is suffering from obstructive uropathy. He was barely able to walk and had pain in joints due to the disease. “I got admitted in MYH on September 11. I have to undergo an operation, which is scheduled on September 24, because of the disease. I was asked to take rest till then. But, on Sunday morning doctors asked me to come along with them in an ambulance. I thought they are taking me for medical test so I came with them.”
Narrating what he felt after reaching the venue, Bapu said, “When I reached at the venue, I was shocked to see that they have brought me here just for a photo session. They could have handed over the card in the hospital itself. I had to bear such extreme pain just to get a photograph clicked.”
The tale of another patient, Balu, a resident of Kanadia village, was not different. He said, “I was admitted at MYH on September 15 since I was losing my vision. I was operated on Monday and doctors advised me to avoid sunlight and air from getting in contact with the operated eye at least for two months. But they themselves brought me to the venue in sunlight and air.”
He alleged, “My eye is paining for half an hour. I urged officials to take me back but they asked me to wait till the cards were distributed.” Both the patients were later taken back to hospital in ambulances.
Refuting their allegations, MYH superintendent Dr VS Pal said, “They are levelling unnecessary allegations on us. All of them were able to walk properly.”
